Biography

Theresa Mleczko has been a practicing professional counselor for over 20 years and has been in full-time private practice since 2014.  She received her Master of Arts in Counselor Education from Northeastern Illinois in Chicago, Illinois.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Theresa is licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin and is also a National Certified Counselor.  In addition to being a counselor, Theresa is a Divorce Mediator having received her training from the Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies.

Theresa has worked as a counselor in the following environments: community and clinical based counseling centers, elementary and middle school, therapeutic foster care, and juvenile and adult probation.  She provides counseling to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.  Some of the many issues she addresses include trauma (sexual assault/abuse; physical assault/abuse; PTSD from military service), mood disorders, behavior issues, phase of life issues, gender concerns, and couple’s and family issues.  Theresa also provides divorce mediation services and group presentations to various organizations.  The presentation topics include: communication in the workplace, stress management, an overview of counseling, mental health disorders and trauma.

Theresa’s primary objective when working with counseling clients is to create a comfortable and welcoming therapeutic environment.  Treatment is client focused which means each client will receive treatment (modalities and approach) based on their goals, past experiences, and current situations.  When working with mediation clients, Theresa focuses on collaboration amongst the involved parties to create a peaceful and positive outcome.
